7.2 - Put to Death

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:5-11

Reflection: Grace does not make sin unimportant. Grace gives you a new reason to fight it. Paul uses language: put to death what belongs to your old life. That means there may be something you need to remove, confess, change, or bring into the light. Following Jesus involves effort. But effort is different from earning. You are not fighting so God will love you. You fight because He already does. That changes how you face temptation. Instead of saying, “This is just who I am,” you can tell the truth: sin is no longer your master. You may still feel its pull, but you do not have to surrender. Ask God to show you one step today. Maybe it is deleting an app, setting a boundary, having a conversation, or asking someone for help. Grace is not permission to remain unchanged. Grace gives you somewhere secure to stand while you fight.

Application Question: What is one specific thing in your life that you know needs to be put to death, and what concrete step could you take today instead of simply wishing it would change?
