8.5 - Come back to the cross

Scripture Reading: Romans 5:6-11

Reflection: Hell raises questions that may never fit into answers. But Christianity does not ask you to trust an idea about God. It points you to the cross. There, you see what God does with people who have rejected Him. He comes after them. Jesus does not stand at a distance from humanity. He enters it. He suffers. He bleeds. He takes judgment upon Himself so that guilty people can receive life with God. The cross may not answer every question you have about hell, but it tells you something about the heart of God. He is not indifferent. He is not reluctant to rescue. He has gone farther than you would have imagined to bring people home. When you reach something about God you cannot understand, come back to Jesus. Look at the cross. You may not understand all God does, but you can see what kind of God He is.

Application Question: What question or struggle about God do you need to bring back to the cross and view through what Jesus has already shown you about His heart?

Weekend Reflection: Think of one person in your life who is far from Jesus. Instead of turning that concern into fear or an argument you need to win, pray for them by name today. Then come to church tomorrow remembering that we are people who know where home is, and we have been sent to help others find their way there.
