5.5 - Take the next step

Scripture Reading: James 1:22-25

Reflection:

Samuel’s first assignment wasn’t glamorous. It was uncomfortable, intimidating, and far beyond what a young boy would naturally choose. Yet Samuel became known as someone who faithfully spoke God’s words because he obeyed the very first one. That’s often how God works. He usually doesn’t reveal your entire future before asking for your next step. He invites you to trust Him one act of obedience at a time. Sometimes that step is public. More often, it’s hidden. A difficult conversation. A quiet act of generosity. An encouraging phone call. A decision to forgive. A commitment to pray. Small acts of obedience shape a lifetime of faithfulness. Don’t underestimate what God can do through one simple “yes.” Today, stop waiting for the perfect moment or the complete picture. Ask God to reveal your next faithful step, then take it. The greatest adventure of following Jesus always begins with ordinary obedience in the present moment.

What is one specific step of obedience you’ve sensed God inviting you toward that you’ve been putting off?

This week you’ve been reminded that God’s voice isn’t reserved for a few extraordinary people. He is still speaking to ordinary people who are willing to draw near, listen together, and obey. As you gather with your church this weekend, come with Samuel’s prayer already on your lips: “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”
