6.3 - Don’t settle for one verse

Scripture Reading: Luke 24:25-35

Reflection:

Some parts of the Bible are confusing. Others can make you uncomfortable. Your temptation may be to grab one verse, pull it out of its setting, and decide what it means for you today. Jesus shows you a better way. After His resurrection, He walked two disciples through the Scriptures and helped them see how the whole story was leading toward Him. Context matters. The kind of writing matters. The people being addressed matter. Where a passage sits within God’s larger story matters. Reading Scripture sometimes requires patience because the Bible was not written directly to twenty-first century readers, even though it was written for us. So when you encounter something strange, don’t panic and don’t dismiss it. Slow down. Ask questions. Study. Look for where you are in the story and how that passage points toward God’s redemptive work in Jesus. Confusion can become an invitation to dig deeper.
